Commission
Commissioning an original portrait or figurative work is a very rewarding process that involves a collaborative approach between the artist and subject(s). Ultimately, capturing the exact likeness of a subject is indeed an important aspect, however it is only skin deep. Getting beneath the facade to reach the true essence is the beginning of portraying an individual.
Roger Derrick is always available to discuss particular requirements with no commitment. Working directly with the client/sitter enables Roger to establish the level of comfort needed to attain the best results, Initial conversation will focus on your specific desires and requirements while conceptual approaches will also aim to provide outside possibilities. After establishing the general direction of the portrait, a more comprehensive proposal will be tailored for your individual need and elaborate on the specific steps within the commission process.
Information includes preliminary life sketching and photography processes, conceptual drawings, high definition portrait photography and lighting scenarios, preliminary color studies and final drawing and/or portrait painting.
Timescale
The timeframe will vary dependent on the overall scope of the commission, to include complexity of the composition, clothing and chosen environment. Current studio commitments must also be considered. If a particular date/timeframe is critical, please inquire as much in advance as possible.
Pricing
Pricing is dependent on the scope of the commission and tailored per individual client. Additionally, a general pricing guide will be included within your individual proposal and can also be provided upon direct request.
Travel
Travel compensation is normally factored into commissions based inside the Tri-State/mid Atlantic regions. Please note that quoted pricing may not reflect these additional expenses for commissions outside the region.
Framing
Clients may elect to use personal framing services/solutions. In the event framing is requested and/or necessary, RDFA uses a custom framing fabricator and will discuss potential options towards to final stages of the commission. Please note that a range of professional framing solutions are available and specialty options can also be discussed per client request.
Shipping
In the event shipping is required for delivery of final works, RDFA will professionally package works and review all shipping/cost options prior to any shipping commitment.
